Herb Steward
Herb Steward has served as Chief Commercial Officer since joining the Company in September 2021. In this position, Herb is responsible for commercial operations and business development, driving revenue growth, market expansion, and commercial strategy, providing commercial perspective to the product development team to assure market alignment.
Herb has more than 30 years of hands-on experience in building relationships focused primarily on clinical laboratory diagnostics, medical devices, and particularly in-vitro diagnostic product commercialization. Prior to joining BacterioScan, Herb served for more than 25 years with bioMérieux, beginning in the position of Product Specialist, then entering the executive level as Vice President – Sales, and advancing through the ranks to Executive Vice President and GM – North America. In these positions, Herb played a key leadership role in the company’s global expansion from $40 million to $1.8 billion in annual sales. He led diverse teams through major product launches, business integrations, and market expansions, fostering a culture defined by performance, collaboration, and customer focus.
Following bioMérieux, Herb was the founder and Managing Director of Strategies for Success and a Partner at KCR & Associates, where he continued to advise startups and leading companies in the diagnostics, medical technology, and reference laboratory sectors. His consulting work centered on market differentiation, commercial transformation, and strategic growth execution.
Herb holds an MBA in Finance and a BSc in Management & Marketing from Webster University along with undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering. He holds certifications in strategy development, global business, and marketing from Duke University, Columbia University, and INSEAD. Herb’s charitable work focuses on St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, St. James AME Church and the Durham Mission.
